Acme Engineering Co. (illustrative example, not a real company) has 300 employees and a single SAML SSO requirement. Annual cost at list price:
- Clerk: Pro at $25/mo. SAML adds $100/mo via Enhanced Authentication. $1,500/yr at Pro + SAML.
- Auth0: B2B Essentials floor is $150/mo flat ($1,800/yr). MAU-based above the included 500 MAU.
Numbers reflect list rates at 300 seats. Negotiated rates, bundled discounts, and per-MAU billing for CIAM products will all materially change the actual invoice.
Hidden cost differences
Clerk
- SAML SSO is gated behind the $100/mo Enhanced Authentication add-on, not Pro.
- Dev branding is mandatory on the Hobby tier - removing it requires Pro.
- Per-MAU overage at $0.02 stacks on top of the flat Pro fee.
Auth0
- MAU is billed even for users who log in once and never return, until the 30-day rolling window expires.
- Enterprise connections (SAML, ADFS, custom OIDC) require Essentials or higher even for tiny B2B logos.
- AI Agents add-on adds 50 percent on top of the base subscription.
